Internet Communication is Becoming More and More Popular Every Day

There are many ways to use Internet communication to talk with family, friends and make new friends right across the globe. Some work better than others and as you read on you will see what is available and be able to decide the method that best suits your needs. Personally I use a mix of Email, Instant messaging and Internet phone calls using Skype. I also belong to a number of forums about my areas of interest.

Internet Communication - Ways of communicating and sharing information on the Internet

  • Email
  • online email

Email is the most popular method that most people use to communicate with family and friends. You can send photos and attachments. I receive email from most members of my family sometimes with jokes, ecards or photos.

  • Instant messaging
  • Here you can chat in real time via text messages. Send a message and receive an instant reply. Popular Instant messaging services are provided by Yahoo, Google, MSN, AOL and Skype has a chat feature as well.

  • Internet phone calls
  • internet phone calls

Making phone calls over the Internet is a fun and free way to communicate with family and friends. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a technology for transmitting ordinary phone calls over the Internet. You can make local, long distance and international calls at a fraction of the cost of your normal telephone rates. Your calls are significantly cheaper and in some cases free.

The most popular provider of this internet communication service is Skype and is one of the fastest growing VoIP applications available today.

I use Skype almost daily to contact family and friends. I also use the chat feature quite a lot. I find that Skype is all I really need.
